Morris's acclaimed memoir of boyhood in Yazoo City, Mississippi, winner of the Houghton Mifflin Literary Fellowship Award for 1967. This copy with a contemporary inscription to "Jack," likely Jack Fischer, Morris's colleague and co-editor at Harper's Magazine: "To Jack, Who taught me the business and taught me about courage and humanity; with the gratitude and affection of his greatest admirer- Willie;" dated October 2, 1967.
