New York: New York Review Books, 1975. First Edition. Octavo (21cm); tan cloth boards, lettered in black on spine; dustjacket; 301pp; 4 leaves of inserted plates (halftones). Upper board edges with a few very faint spots of foxing, else Fine in a Near Fine dustjacket, unclipped, but with publisher's price sticker removed. Neat ownership signature to front free endpaper.
A now-classic work of bioethics, and a foundation work for groups such as PETA and Animal Liberation Front (ALF). Never intended for a popular audience, most early copies seem to have gone to libraries, making the first printing notably scarce, especially in dustwrapper. This a very attractive copy.
