Late-career satirical novel, a semi-autobiographical work based on Lewis's sojourn in WW2-era Canada. Though by this time Lewis had repudiated many of his antisemitic and pro-fascist views, it was likely these that established his association with the American right-wing publisher Henry Regnery, not generally renowned as a literary publisher but nonetheless the issuer of Lewis's works in America from the mid-1940s on.
