[Item #51265] What Every Woman Wants. Paul ELDRIDGE.

What Every Woman Wants

Girard, KS: Haldeman-Julius, 1946. First Edition. Octavo. Staple-bound, printed thick paper wrappers; 63pp. Mild ageing to text; a couple of faint corner-creases to wrappers; Very Good.

Mildly racy novella set in liberated Paris, with a theatre-world setting. The Romanian-born American writer Paul Eldridge (1888-1982) was one of the more prolific authors in the Haldeman-Julius stable, producing more than 75 volumes of prose and poetry over his long career (including four fictive collaborations with novelist, poet, and Nazi collaborator Peter Viereck) . Eldridge was married to writer and stage actress Sylvette de la Mar (aka Sylvia Reiss), whose persona is clearly present in the current work in the character of Nicolette, a decadent Parisian chanteuse. A somewhat uncommon title in the Haldeman-Julius "Big Blue Book" series; OCLC notes only five physical locations.
