An exhaustive compilation of laws, opinions, and legal precedents related to the South African Natives (Urban Areas) Act of 1923 and the various proclamations and ordinances related to it. The Introduction identifies this as "the first exhaustive study of the Act yet made...intended as a vade-mecum to be kept at one's side for constant reference," and indeed this is an invaluable reference for any who wish to gain an understanding of what life under apartheid must have been like. The author was the former Attorney-General of the Transvaal. Reprinted in 1946; this edition rather uncommon, with only five holdings noted in North American institutions (more in South Africa and Great Britain).
