Address delivered by the author of "Two Years Before the Mast," regarding the proposed removal of Judge Loring following his decision to return Anthony Burns to slavery under the Fugitive Slave Act. Dana, who defended Burns in court and was nearly beaten to death in the street for it, argued against Loring's removal, though he did urge the state of Massachusetts to take action against the Act.
