Octavo (23cm.); green cloth presentation binding stamped in gilt; xxxviii,644pp. Spine gilt a bit dulled, textblock uniformly toned, else Very Good or better. California politican John F. Shelley's copy with his named embossed in gilt to upper cover. Shelley began his career as an agent for the Bakery Wagon Drivers Union in 1932, and went on to become an AFL official in 1936. Almost thirty years later, in 1964, he was elected the thirty-fifth Mayor of San Francisco, a position he held until January, 1968.
