Quarto (28cm); half iridescent blue cloth, with pictorial cream paper sides, stamped in gilt; gilt-stamped endpapers; 90pp., frontis., 10 colorplates. Boards gently scuffed, soiled and worn, with intermittent scratches and small gouges; extremities bumped, with abrasions. Interiors show mild handling wear, but clean and sound. Very Good.

A somewhat frilly gift book by Weymer Jay Mills, author and one-time decorations editor for Vogue. This "old-fashioned" New York City romance is beautifully illustrated, with ten colorplates and a frontispiece by John Rae—not the Arctic explorer (though this story might have turned out very differently if it was) but a children's book author/artist of the same name. Lacks the original box and glassine, but still attractive.
