Scottish author Henrietta Keddie, writing under the pseudonym Sarah Tytler, produced popular stories of domestic realism, as well as educational and juvenile works, primarily for women and girls. Papers for Thoughtful Girls (1862) was originally published in the United Kingdom as a conduct manual for young middle class ladies. Apropos of the times it features a strong focus on domesticity and godliness, but it is amiably written and distinguished by Keddie's use of short stories ('sketches') to illustrate her moral council.
