Photographer Camilo José Vergara documents a two-decade exploration of metropolitan ghettos and their residents. He uses successive photographs to track dramatic changes to these spaces over the years, as many former inner city residential/community areas are vacated and destroyed, while others are fortified, repurposed, or gentrified. Through his photography (b/w and color) and observations, Vergara illustrates the state of the American Ghetto, as it was in 1995.
