Handley High School Auditorium, Winchester, VA. - Thursday Evening, March 20, 1930. Geraldine Farrar / Claude Gonvierre, Pianist.

[Boston: C.J. Foley, 1930]. Staple-bound concert program. 12mo (20cm); printed paper wrappers; 8pp. Old folds, toned and lightly soiled, with some pencil notes to program; Good.

A late-career recital by the great operatic soprano and film actress, who had transitioned from opera to concert recitals in the early Twenties following the premature decline of her voice. Farrar's enormous popularity, born of a prolific silent-film career, remained high, especially in the hinterlands; but with her film and operatic careers behind her, we can only infer that economic exigency would have brought her to a rural high-school auditorium in 1930. The program included works by Beethoven, Schubert,, Dvorák, Grieg, etc; an attentive concert-goer has annotated this copy with notes of Dame Farrar's impromptu additions to the program, including works by Brahms, de Falla, and others.
