Edward Everett Hale was a prominent Boston author and Unitarian minister; he supported the principles of practical liberal theology and often reflected these ideals in his writing. His stories inspired the formation of many charitable and relief organizations, including the Lend-a-Hand Society. This short and humorous tale, presented here in his "Tell it Again" series for young readers, was originally published in the May, 1890 issue of Harper's. Includes a handmade bookmark of unknown origin, with a tipped-on picture of the E.E. Hale statue in the Boston Public Gardens.
