Spine sunned; minor wear with rubbing and bumping to board extremities, especially heel and crown of spine; textblock edges toned; foxing and soiling intermittent throughout. Else Very Good or better. Author signed and inscribed book to granddaughter, Mary L. Lowell.
Features the first hand accounts of American educator and conservationist George B. Emerson (cousin of Ralph Waldo Emerson), regarding his experiences as a teacher and schoolmaster in Massachusetts. Notably he was principal of The English High School (the first public high school in America) at its founding in 1821. He then opened a private high school for girls, and lectured well and often on topics in women's education. A published scholar of trees, Emerson also served as president of the Boston Society of Natural History for many years.
