Spine sunned; minor wear with rubbing and bumping to board extremities, especially heel and crown of spine; textblock edges toned; foxing and soiling intermittent throughout. Features the first hand accounts of American educator and conservationist George B. Emerson (cousin of Ralph Waldo Emerson), regarding his experiences as a teacher and schoolmaster in Massachusetts. Notably he was principal of The English High School (the first public high school in America) at its founding in 1821. He then opened a private high school for girls, and lectured well and often on topics in women's education. A published scholar of trees, Emerson also served as president of the Boston Society of Natural History for many years.
