This bright and colorful tale was crafted by Ezra Jack Keats, an American author/illustrator noted for introducing more diverse, urban settings into children's literature. In this story, which also features inventive use of collage, two dogs try to learn how to roller skate with disastrous results, until they encounter a kitten in trouble. An interesting bit of trivia from the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation: When "Skates!" was printed in Japan, it inspired the city of Kiyose to construct a skating rink. Keats himself attended the opening of the rink, which was named in his honor. Listed on OCLC as "Franklin Watts Library Edition"
