Rhodes gives us a first-hand chronicle of his experiences as a United States naval officer, on a sea voyage that takes their ship (the USS Iroquois) from New York to Brazil and beyond, to locales including South Africa, the Comoros, Bombay, Shanghai, Japan, and around Cape Horn. A fascinating snapshot of international travel and culture in the 1890s, but definitely a product of its time. Illustrated in b/w throughout, with 14 full page plates.
