Charles Austin Fosdick, under the pseudonym Harry Castlemon, was a prolific and popular author of boys' adventure books, from the 1860's to the early 1900s. "Buried Treasure" (1877) is volume 1 in his Boy Trapper series, which also contains "Boy Trapper" (1878) and "The Mail Carrier" (1879). This edition contains fourteen pages of supplemental advertising material for other books available from the publisher, which date this reprint to at least 1896.
