Charles Austin Fosdick, under the pseudonym Harry Castlemon, was a prolific and popular author of boys' adventure books, from the 1860's to the early 1900s. "The Mail Carrier" (1879) is volume 3 in his Boy Trapper series, which also contains "The Buried Treasure" (1877) and "Boy Trapper" (1878). This edition contains eight pages of supplemental advertising material for other books available from the publisher, which date this reprint to at least 1896; supplement is possibly missing a final six pages, which are present in another volume in this series.
