Novel by the secretary of the Baptist Home Mission Society, describing a group of Society men, including a judge, a doctor, and a deacon, riding a train home together from a meeting, and the conversations they have, let by Lincoln Dodge, a layman whose religious zeal outpaces them all. As the Society's magazine "Men and Missions" writes in a contemporary review: "No layman who desires to have a large place of leadership in the Kingdom can afford to miss the message of this book. It is especially valuable to put in the hands of men of means and leisure, who could render a great service to the Church" ("Men and Missions," Vol. 4, p. 19). Not in Smith.
