Cincinnati: Robert Clarke & Co., 1877. First Edition. Slim octavo (23cm.); publisher's tan card wrappers printed within double rule; 44pp. Some soil to wrappers, rear wrapper starting to separate, small author obituary newsclipping (1900) tipped to title page with subsequent offsetting inside upper cover, else Very Good, internally sound. Essay by the Ohio-born Indiana judge, composed during his tenure on the State Supreme Court (1874-1881). Perhaps unsurprisingly, Biddle, who later in life became something of a hermit, owned the largest private library in the state (COYLE, p. 54).
