Original Hand-Drawn Broadside Advertising the Debate "Question - Resolved that the Law Should Place a Limit upon the Hours for Daily Labor for Workingmen"

N.p. 1892. Hand-drawn broadside (43x35.5cm.), accomplished in black ink and pencil. Some light soil and toning to extremities, a few tiny pin-holes at top corners not approaching image, else Very Good or better.

Quite an attractive and detailed hand-drawn announcement of a Christmas Eve labor debate, the illustration drawn within a trompe-l'oeil wood-paneled frame and depicting two exceedingly young men, simply labelled "President" and "Secretary," though the names of those involved have been added in a presumably different, more scrawling hand. The lower edge claims "All are cordially invited to attend," but the debate having been held "Monday Eve. Dec. 24, '92" leads us to believe that turn-out may have been rather sparse. No union appears to have been linked to the event, and the youthfulness of the two men depicted open the possibility that this was a college debate club event.
