The Influence of Party Upon Legislation in England and America

[Washington: American Historical Association, 1901]. First Edition. Octavo. Blue cloth with gilt spine titles; pp321-542; four folding charts inserted following text. Lowell family presentation inscription to front endpaper: "John Lowell from his father Ralph Lowell," dated 1946. Likely one of a few specially-bound author's copies of this work, which was originally published in the Annual Report of the American Historical Association for 1901; later (1902) issued separately by the Government Printing Office. Fine copy.

Important early work by Abbott Lawrence Lowell, influential scholar and educator, scion of the Lowell Family of Boston (his siblings were poet Amy Lowell and astronomer Percival Lowell); and President of Harvard University from 1909-1933. The inscription is from Ralph Lowell, Abbott's cousin and his successor as Trustee of the Lowell Institute.
