The Young Worker. Official Organ of the Young Worker's League. Vol. II, no. 6 (June, 1923)

Chicago: Young Worker's League, 1923. First Edition. Published here under the banners "Official Organ of the Young Worker's League" and "A Magazine for the Militant Young Workers of America," this a Communist monthly magazine which ran from 1922 to 1936 before being renamed first the Champion of Youth (1936) and finally Champion: Labor Monthly (1937). No editor attribution in this issue, though Goldwater lists Oliver Carlson and Max Schachtman. This issue includes an article on the Second National Convention of the YWL, a full-page cartoon by William Gropper titled "Cake Eaters," an essay on child labor, and results for the League's various sports teams. GOLDWATER 321. Large quarto (30.75cm.); staplebound self-wrappers printed in black and red, illustrated by "Stiller"; 20pp.; illus. and cartoons throughout, text in double columns. The whole browned and quite brittle due to poor paper stock, wrappers and a few later leaves separated but present, close tear to textblock fore-edge just touching text without loss of meaning. Good or better copy of an exceedingly uncommon and fragile periodical.
