Longstreet's pseudonymous novel chronicles the clash between midwestern farmers and corporate interests over the erection of a hydroelectric dam and powerlines during the 1920's. Stephen Longstreet (1907-2002) was a prolific author and Hollywood screenwriter whose credits included Silver River (1948); The Jolson Story (1946); and, famously, Cecil DeMille's 1951 "The Greatest Show on Earth," for which Longstreet never received credit (nor his share of the Academy Award) despite his sustained contention that he had written the dialogue for the film.
