Kent's autobiographical account of his visit to the country of North Greenland, richly illustrated by him throughout the text, depicting the daily lives of the people he met. The book was named after the mistress he kept there, whose semi-nude figure graced the front cover of the first issue dustjacket. Perhaps the American public was not ready for the sight of such an overt display indigenous partial-nudity, so subsequent printings were released with a cover featuring an eagle perched on a rock - long the symbol of American decorum.
