Octavo (20cm); red textured cloth, with titling and rule in gilt on spine and front panel, with decorative paper medallion at center of front cover; 355pp, [1] blank + [4pp] ads. Spine gilt slightly dulled but legible, contemporary owners name and date (1917) in ink on front endpaper, light page edge soil, with a fingernail-sized chip at the base of the spine; a solidly Very Good copy.

A novel about heredity, sex selection, and the injustice of the Catholic attitude toward divorce. Patterson was a major journalist and publisher who founded New York's Daily News. His 1908 novel Little Brother of the Rich is cited in Walter Rideout's "The Radical Novel in the United States." HANNA 2798.
