Octavo (21cm.); bound in oatmeal-colored buckram, stamped in brown on the spine and front panel; dustjacket; 272pp. Inscribed by the author in red pencil on the front endpaper: "For Mary Margaret McBride, With a warmth and breadth of spirit that I shall not forget - Alberta Hannum." Top edge slightly dusty, with a faint touch of toning to the endpapers, else very Near Fine. Dustjacket is unclipped, with sunning at the spine at the spine and flap folds, a few discreet edgetears, shallow chipping at the spine ends, and a small scrape and chip at mid spine; Very Good, with superb (though uncredited) wraparound artwork.

Appalachian mountain girl is courted then betrayed by a city visitor, and subsequently shunned by her community. An interesting association copy; the recipient, Mary Margaret McBride, known as "The First Lady of Radio" and for pioneering the early days of television. HANNA 1565, BOGER 203.
