A WPA novel following the fortunes of a wealthy builder who, after losing everything in the Depression, finds redemption as a laborer on a dam project. Ellison (1908-1981) published two works of Depression-era fiction, then went on to a long and distinguished career as a magazine editor and publisher. In 1946 he founded "Associated Magazine Contributors," a co-operative fiction venture whose co-owners included Steinbeck and Dos Passos. HANNA 1084.
