Wolfert's first novel, and his only venture into crime fiction. Tucker's People, based loosely on the life and times of mobster Dutch Schultz, was praised as one of the finest and most realistic crime novels of its day - a novel Walter Rideout credited as "one of the most distinguished novels of the whole forties."
